How we verify climate-controlled storage

Why we do this

Many storage search sites tag a facility as "climate-controlled" without saying where that came from. Some facilities only have a few heated units. Some have none. We wanted a list where you can see the proof yourself.

The steps

1. Collect listings. We start from Google Maps listings for self storage, which give us the name, address, phone, hours, rating and website.
2. Visit each website. A script loads the facility's own page. It removes menus, headers, footers, forms and links, so it reads the page content and not the navigation.
3. Look for the wording. It searches for phrases like "climate-controlled", "temperature-controlled", "humidity-controlled", "heated and cooled" and "air-conditioned units".
4. Throw out the false matches. Lines that say "non-climate-controlled", "no climate control" or "we don't offer climate-controlled units" don't count. For chains, a sentence that appears on nearly every location's page is treated as site-wide marketing and ignored, so only text about that location counts.
5. Quote the proof. If a real match is left, the facility is listed with the line we found. If not, it is left off.

What a listing looks like

This is the box you see on every listing. The quote comes straight from the facility's site. When we had to cut a long sentence, the "…" shows where.

What we don't do

• We don't list prices or unit sizes unless we can confirm them, so you won't see them yet.
• We don't guess. If a facility's site doesn't mention climate control, it is not here, even if it may offer it.
• We can't check sites that block automated visits. Some large chains are missing for that reason.
• Ratings and hours come from Google. Confirm hours with the facility before you visit.

How current is this?

The websites behind the current listings were checked in Oct 2026. Facilities change what they offer, so ask when you call. If a listing is wrong, tell us and we will recheck it.
